Art Deco Architecture
In 1931 many buildings of Napier were destroyed because of an earthquake. The years after the earthquake rebuilding took place; during the “Art Deco” period. This caused Napier’s many Art Deco buildings in town. There are many tour operators offering tours regarding this topic, besides that Napier Art Deco Trust promotes providing visitors information on this topic. They organize guided walks (against a good price) and publish leaflets.

This museum features Maori Culture and History (in this area). It also discusses some geological History, early settlers their History and the earthquake which took place in 1931 and destroyed parts of Napier.
Vine yards
The area around Napier is dotted with vine yards. You can attend tours starting in Napier. You can also head off to some of them on your own. Be aware not all vine yards are opened for visitors coming without a tour.
