Bay of Islands
Bay of Islands is considered as one of New Zealand’s top attractions. It is blessed with many coves, turquoise water, lots of islands and a long History. The first permanent European settlement was established in this area and the treaty with the Maori was signed here in 1840 as well.

Beaches and surfing
This area of the northern island contains many Beaches. Some of them are good Surfing spots. You are of course able to surf on your own; you can also book a tour or rent equipment only.
Extreme(r) sports
Besides the “normal” activities you can undertake at the Bay of Islands, you can also undertake extreme(r) sports: skydiving, skywalking and parasailing.
Fishing
The Bay of Island is a good place to catch some fish. You can book a fish tour.
Jetboating
It is very popular to make a jetboat trip to the Hole in the Rock.
Kayaking
There are many kayak options in the Bay of Islands. You can rent one and paddle off alone. You can also choose to book a tour.
Marine mammal
The bottle nose dolphin is often seen in this area of New Zealand. This makes it an excellent place to swim with them. In order to do this you should book a tour; exciting to do.
Sailing and cruising
You can not leave the Bay of Islands without spending some time on a boat floating on the water. You can undertake a sailing trip by paying money to be a passenger or to “work” as a crewmember. Most of the time sailing experience is not needed. Another option is to make a cruise on a motorboat, ferry. For both activities many operators can be found. You can even make an overnight (sailing) cruise.
It is also possible to rent a small sailing boat or catamaran on which you will be able to sail alone.
Scuba diving
This bay offers great diving opportunities. You will find lots of fish and beautiful nature under the waterline in the Bay of Islands. Besides that you will also be able to dive to the wreck of the Rainbow Warrior. You can rent equipment and or book a tour.
