Whangarei

This is the biggest city in Northland & Auckland, when of course forgetting about the biggest city in New Zealand; Auckland. It is a pleasant city which has some beautiful nature around it. Whangarei a good base to explore the surrounding area.

Outdoor

Caving

Abbey Caves is a limestone cave network. You will be able to spot some glowworms . You can access the cave by your own or with a tour.

Tramping

It is a nice idea to make a walk at Cafler Park, the harbor of Whangerei or Town Basin. Walking around at Quarry Craft Co-op is nice as well. You will see many artists working. Whangerei Falls, AH Reed Kauri Park and Abbey Caves are also nice places to tramp. Finally: the Waimahanga Walkway is a tip.
