Ohakune
(population 1500)This lovely town is close to Turoa Ski Area and is considered as the northern island’s après ski capital. In winter many skiers are coming into town. During summer time Ohakune is an excellent base for Outdoor activities near and on Whanganui River.

There are many nice walks starting at Ohakune. There are short and long, easy and difficult walks to choose from. To mention some: Rimu Track (20 minutes) and Waitonga Falls (1 ½ hours). For additional information: please visit a DOC.
Skiing
Ohakune is one of the best après ski places in New Zealand. This makes skiing in the area close to it even better.
