Te Aroha
(population 4000)This town has beautiful scenery. It is located at the foot of the almost 1000 meter high Mount Te Aroha. There are many hot springs in this town as well. These attract year round many visitors.

Thermal pools
There are several thermal pools in Te Aroha. Hot Spring Spa Pools has a geyser nearby as well; this would be a good place to visit (Hot Spring Spa Pools), if you doubt which one to choose from.
Tramping
There is a tramping trail going all the way up to the summit of Mount Te Aroha. This is a good tramp; on top (and almost on top) you will have a nice view. There is an easier walk of four hours to the Howarth Wetlands Reserve as well.
