Turangi
(population 4000)Turangi is the small version of Taupo, although it is not situated at Lake Taupo; it lies south of it. The main attraction of Turuangi is trout Fishing in the Tongariro River. Finally Turangi makes an excellent base for walking in Tongariro National Park.

There is a climbing hall in town. This is a good place to go to when longing for some challenge.
Fishing
The area around this town is absolutely excellent for (trout) Fishing. Equipment can be rented, also boats can be rented.

There are several companies offering white water rafting in this area.

There is a thermal pool in the area, including a short walk through it. The name: Tokaanu Thermal Pools.
