Waitomo
This is maybe the best place in New Zealand for Caving; it is one of the major attractions on the northern island. The amount of mapped caves exceeds 300. The caves and accompanying rock formation are of limestone. There are many activities which can be done in the caves, from glowworm watching to rafting.
Outdoor
Caving
Most of the visitors go to the following caves: Aranui Cave and Glowworm Cave. You need to purchase tickets in order to enter these caves.
Extreme(r) sports
There are some extreme(r) activities offered in the caves: abseiling and the flying fox.
Horse riding
Horse tours are offered. They go trough the nearby bush and farmland.
Kayaking
You can attend a kayak tour.
Jetboating
In the area near the caves Jetboating is offered, you might even try to steer for yourself.
Mountainbiking
There are some nice trails to mountainbike on. You can do this with your own bike on your own; you can also attend a mountainbike tour.
Rafting
There are companies offering rafting tours in the caves. This is a really nice and different kind of rafting trip from regular rafting trips.
Tramping
There are some excellent tramping opportunities in this area; in and outside the caves. At the Museum of Caves information about these tramps can be conducted.

Angora rabbits are sheared here. The products which can be made of angora can be purchased in the nearby shop.
