Whitianga

Whitianga is a popular town on the Coromandel Peninsula. It has a nice harbor which is situated at Mercury Bay; this bay is lying next to the South Pacific Ocean. Many nice aquatic activities can be undertaken in Whitianga. Of course also activities on land are at hand.

Beaches

There are some nice Beaches where excellent sunbathing can be done.

Caving

There are some nice caves around Whitianga. By attending a tour you will be able to see the caves near the shore; the tour will be in a boat.

Extreme(r) sports

There are banana boat tours.

Fishing

Do you like Fishing and in particular game Fishing: a visit to Whitianga has to be on your list.

Horse riding

There are horse trekking tours organized. This is a nice activity to escape from the aquatic activities.

Kayaking

You can rent a kayak. With a kayak you can explore the nice shores of the coast near Whitianga.

Marine (mammal) watching

You can attend a tour in a boat which has a bottom of glass; excellent to see marine life.

Sailing

Sailing boats are for rent. So for sail lovers and nature lovers this is a good spot.

Scuba diving and snorkeling

There is lots of marine life to see, so if you have the equipment: bring it.

If you do not have your own surf equipment you can rent it. When you are not an experienced surfer: do not worry, lessons are provides as well.

Cultural activity

It is possible to attend Bay Carving and Bone Carving. There are some companies offering this. Some of the carvings will be made in Maori style.
