Mount Taranaki (or Mount Egmont)

MounTaraniki is a volcanic one; the last eruption took place over 300 years ago. This mountain is more than 2500 meter high and is partly covered with lava flows. If it is a clear day you will have excellent views. You can climb this mountain, of course when the weather conditions allow it only. Finally: it is the most climbed mountain in New Zealand and a Walhalla for tramp lovers.

Outdoor

Tramping

You will get some panoramic views from the summit. Climbing Mount Taraniki takes 8 hours. There are other major tramping opportunities. For example the Mount Taraniki Low Level Cicuit and the Mount Taraniki High Level Circuit. Both are considered moderate to undertake, the Low one is taking 5 days and the High one is taking 4. The best time to tramp is from December till March. The tramps will take you around a landmark volcano and through bush and will both provide you breathtaking views; when the weather is fair. For more information, also about short walks, please visit a DOC. Finally: be aware of the quick changing weather conditions in this partly sub alpine area.

When you do not want to undertake the walk on your own you can hire a guide.

Skiing and snowboarding

During winter times Mount Taraniki is snow powdered. It makes a beautiful but small area for winter ports like Skiing and Snowboarding.
