Akaroa

(population 650)

Early French settlers arrived to colonize Banks Peninsula in 1840. They discovered the British had already sovereignty over New Zealand. Anyhow the French settled in Akaroa and their Gallic influence is still prevalent. Now Akaroa is a beautiful town with lots of opportunities to relax in seaside cafes looking at the anchoring boats and the beautiful coastline.
