Mount Hutt Area
Mount Hutt Area is most awake during wintertime; ski- and snowboard time. Methven (1000 inhabitants) is the best base for exploring Mount Hutt Area. This town fills up during wintertime as well. Of course Mount Hutt Area has some nice summer activities as well. For example making a hot air balloon trip.
Outdoor

Making a hot air balloon trip in Mount Hutt Area is beautiful. You will enjoy views of the mountains and the flatness of the Canterbury Plains.
Fishing
There are some nice Fishing spots around this area. For more information on this please ask the DOC's or visitor centers in or around the area.
Golf
Terrace Downs Golf court is beautiful; it is recommendable to Golf there.
Skiing and snowboarding
Mount Hutt is a nice spot to ski and snowboard. You can ski here from about June to October. It is besides just skiing also possible to undertake a heli ski. For more information about this please look for the companies offering this in Methven.
Tramping
There are some excellent day walks in this area, for example the Methven Walkway. The Mount Somers Sub alpine Walkway is a great multiple day walk. This is a 3 days during tramp, its difficulty is said to be moderate. The best time to undertake this walk is from November till March. The track will take you through an alpine area.
