Blenheim

(population 28.000)

Blenheim makes concerning its landscape a surprising contrast with the more northern part of Marlborough region, the sounds. Blenheim itself grew around a swamp; this causes the flatness of the town. From the town you see on a clear day the mountains southwest of it and the mountains north (Marlborough Sounds) of it, together with the flatness of the city you will witness the variety of landscapes within the country. The city itself has some beautiful gardens and a thriving café and restaurant scene. Finally Blenheim is the best gateway (together with Renwick) for visiting Marlborough’s vineyards.
