Alexandra

(population 4700)

This town is a popular destination for tourists in summer. The city flourished during the gold rush in the 19th century. Nowadays Alexandra is New Zealand's hub of the stone fruit and merino wool industries. The city is located among trees and rocky hills.

Mountainbiking

If you are fond of mountainbiking you should not forget to visit Alexandra. Around Alexandra many trails meander through the old gold trails. The Dunstan Trail is a very famous one. For more information you should visit the visitors centre in town.

Tramping

There is a walk from the city center to Alexandra Clock. This clock is up a hill overlooking Alexandra. The walk takes approximately 1 hour.

Alexandra Clock

A hill above town contains an 11 meter (in diameter) clock. There is a walking track to the clock (see above).

This museum depicts historical photos and displays some artifacts from the old mining days.
