Catlins Forest Park
This area has coastal forest and a rugged coastline consisting of cliffs, sand dunes, bays and caves. Along the coastline penguins, (elephant) seals, sea lions and Hector's dolphins are often seen. Within the Catlins Forest Park area you will find a variety of birdlife. Also historic timber milling sites are present in this forest park. Beaches
Tautuku Bay is a nice beach.
Bird watching
You will be able to spot many birds within the whole area. A popular bird spot place is Awarua Wetlands.
Caving
Cathedral Caves on Waipati Beach are worth visiting. Do not forget to take the high and low tides in account.
Jacks Blowhole is another kind of cave. It is 55 meter deep, 200 meter from sea and is via a cavern connected with the sea; The South Pacific Ocean.
Marine mammal watching
In this area you will be able to spot many wildlife species. Examples are penguins, (elephant) seals, sea lions and Hector's dolphins. Good points to spot (some of) them are Nugget Point, Porpoise Bay, Cannibal Bay and Roaring Bay.
Tramping
There are many nice tramps in this area. You can find for example some tramps at Lake Wilkie, Florece Hill, Matai Falls, Purakauni Falls, Paunawea Nature Walks, Nugget Point, Cannibal Bay and Catlins River.

Cultural buildings and places
Curio Bay
This bay contains one of world's largest fossil forests. The fossil forests are 160 million years old.
Slope Point
This is the most southerly point of the southern island.
Tautuku Sawmill
At Tautuku Bay you will find an old sawmill.
Waipapa Point Lighthouse
This lighthouse was built in 1884. The reason for building it: in 1881 a disaster happened in front of the coast; a ship got shipwrecked.
