Invercargill

(population 49.000)

Invercargill is New Zealand's most southern town. This town is economically depending on farm servicing. It isn't a "must see" town but there are some nice buildings, museums and galleries. Since recently the student population is increasing which makes the town a bit more flourishing.

Outdoor

Beaches

Oreti Beach lies a few kilometers away from the city centre. It is a nice beach to swim at.

Golf

The Queens Park Golf Course is a Golf course in the middle of town.

Tramping

It is nice to walk around Queens Park.

Please visit the visitor center for the Invercargill City Spirit Walk. Herein you will find some nice walks just in and around town.

South Antarctic Center

This is fun for the whole family.

Cultural buildings and places

Water Tower

You can climb on top of the Water Tower. From there you will have a nice view on the city.

Anderson Park Art Gallery

This is a beautiful in 1925 built Georgian house.

Soutland Museum and Art Gallery

There are some interesting displays about the Maori and Victorian times and colonial artifacts. The gallery has also a Roaring 40's sub Antarctic island exhibition.
