Wine Tours
New Zealand has many main wine growing areas divided amongst both the islands. Gisborne (Bay of Plenty & East Coast), Hawkes Bay (Bay of Plenty & East Coast), Martinborough (Wanganui & Wellington), Auckland region and near Wellington are the main wine growing areas on the northern island. Marlborough (Marlborough & Nelson), Nelson (Marlborough & Nelson), Canterbury and Queenstown (Otago & Southland) are the main wine growing areas on the southern island. Marlborough can be perceived as the “capital” of New Zealand’s wine industry.
Since New Zealand is famous for its premium wines wine tours increased in popularity. Many vineyards offer tours or tour operators offer tours to them. Of course it is also possible (not for all vineyards) to go there without booking a tour.
Most of the bigger vineyards have a nice café, restaurant etc.
Marlborough, Hawkes Bay and Martinborough have an annual wine (and food) festival. Please look for more information respectively at the following websites: http://www.bmw-winemarlborough-festival.co.nz, http://www.harvesthawkesbay.co.nz, and http://www.winesofnz.com.
