Skiing and Snowboarding

New Zealand is an excellent place to ski or snowboard. It is said to be one of the most popular ski areas in the southern hemisphere. Every type of skier and snowboarder will be able to fulfill its needs. You can do helicopter skiing, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, ski tours and ski Mountaineering.

When comparing New Zealand’s ski areas with the European they are less crowded. Another difference is the place of the Accommodation. In Europe most ski areas have Accommodation on the ski slopes. In New Zealand you won’t find this; Accommodation can be found in nearby towns. Shuttle busses connect the town with the ski areas near it. Like in Europe and other places around the world you will be able to rent equipment near the Accommodations.

The bulk of the ski areas can be found on the southern island. For example near Queenstown (Otago & Southland), around Mt. Hutt and west of Kaikoura (the first Canterbury the latter Marlborough & Nelson). For additional ski- and snowboard information check http://www.snow.co.nz.
