Getting Around by Boat
New Zealand has a 13.000km coastline, but has besides the necessary boat connections no long-distance water transport. There are boat connections between the islands near the coast of New Zealand. Some examples are Stewart Island (Otago & Southland) and islands in the Hauraki Gulf (Northland & Auckland). Probably the most famous boat connection in New Zealand is the one between Wellington (Wanganui & Wellington) and Picton (Marlborough & Nelson); The Cook Straight. The official Cook Straight Ferries webiste is the following: http://www.interislander.co.nz. We recommend using this website.
