Getting Around by Bus

Traveling by bus is quite easy and well organized. There are bus stops on almost all the places in New Zealand you can imagine; from the big cities to the endings of walking tracks in the countryside.

InterCity Coachlines is the main bus company. Newmans Coachline is a subsidiary of InterCity Coachlines, it is the more comfortable and expensive one. Both the islands have regional operator as well.

A budget option is to make use of the “Backpacker Buses”. These busses are run by companies offering organized tours. You can use the buses for their organized tours but also because they just bring you relatively cheap from “a” to “b”. The advantages of these busses are that you meet lots of other travelers. Bottom Bus and Kiwi Experience are two of the many companies offering these services.

In summer and holiday times you should book ahead in order to obtain the service you whish. A page on which you can book busses is: http://www.travelplanner.co.nz.
