Getting Around by Train

In contradiction to many other countries: in New Zealand you use the train for the journey, not to go anywhere. New Zealand’s train operator is Tranz Scenic. This company offers various routes which are a pleasure for the eye. A popular route is the Tranz Alpine which operates between Christchurch (Canterbury) and Greymouth (Westcoast). The route meanders through the stunning Southern Alps. More routes are offered, on both the islands. Reservations can be made at train stations, travel agents and at Tranz Scenic itself.
